EnviRoad’s Earthbind® Offers Superior Benefits Compared to Lignosulfonates

Posted .

Lignosulfonates have been used as a dust control measure on unpaved roads for many years. They are essentially a byproduct from other industries; for example, they are a common waste product in wood pulp processing. While these industries see the sale of lignosulfonates as a cost-effective maneuver, they do have some significant disadvantages when it comes to long-term dust control solutions.

One major problem is that lignosulfonates are water soluble. As a result, excessive rain can wash them away. This has the potential to pollute local water sources and damage plants. It also necessitates repeat applications on roads. This means that over the years there will be a significant volume of lignosulfonates purchased and used.

Earthbind® is an environmentally-friendly modified biopolymer that is designed to be non-hydroscopic. This type of biopolymer will not wash away from successive rain like lignosulfonates can. A residual amount of Earthbind will remain in the road surface, so in the following years you will have to use less to achieve the same results. This means you will use significantly less total product over time.

Because Earthbind weighs up to 20% less than lignosulfonates, it costs less to ship and store. It also requires a lower volume for the same dust control effect. An equal volume of Earthbind can potentially cover three to five times that of lignosulfonates.
